Fourteen members of a Bloods gang were recently charged with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations act. The gang, which has ties to the national Bloods criminal organization, was based in South Florida and connected with various kidnappings, attempted murders, extortion schemes, robberies, and home invasions, as well as a host of other racketeering activities. One of the defendants, Earnest Copeland, is allegedly the boss of the local Bloods organization, who coordinated the movements and criminal acts of other Bloods members in the area.
If convicted under the RICO statute, the defendants face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Regardless of the charges, all defendants are entitled to a fair trial and legal representation.
