Tasers Weighed after Fatal Shooting

February 19th, 2008 · No Comments

After an officer fatally shot a woman Saturday night, officials in Berkeley expressed remorse that their police force, unlike 419 others in the state of California, did not have other means to subdue a suspect.

The shooting came late Saturday when a 51 year old woman reportedly brandished a kitchen knife at both her family members and then police officers who responded at the scene. Some witness reports say the woman was shot in the back while others say she wasn’t. Witness reports all indicate that the officer was justified in his actions.

The officer that shot the victim was a 5 year veteran of the Berkeley police force. He is currently on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
