San Jose has decided to give an evening reporting center for delinquent children a second chance. Despite the problems faced by the first center, the second has been given the green light.

The delinquent centers are meant to ease the strains put on juvenile hall and rehabilitate delinquent children. Unfortunately, not many children were being sent to the first center and many of the children sent to the center fell right back into crime.

These reporting centers are among the tools counties nationwide began using in recent years to cut the costs of juvenile halls and put kids accused of relatively minor crimes back on the right track.

The center provides supervised time for meals, homework, counseling, mentors and recreation from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., five days a week.
