Charges have been dropped against two men that were accused of wheeling their dead roommate throughout Manhattan in an attempt to cash his social security check.
The two roommates named in the case, O’Hare and Daloia, faced charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument in connection with the intial charge. A Manhattan judge dismissed the charges recently, arguing that it could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the man was dead when the roommates left their home with him. A medical examiner confirmed the judge’s thoughts, stating that the man had died of natural causes and he would be unable to determine the time of death.
The two roommates say that their roommate was alive when they left home and that they had been given permission by the roommate to cash the social security check in order to pay for shared monthly expenses.
