Lisa Platz was convicted in 2003 of the 2001 murder of her nine year daughter, Rebecca Aramburo. Platz and her boyfriend Csucsai had previously kidnapped the girl and taken her from Washington to a campground in Lake Tahoe, California, where a nine-hour standoff with the police ended with the girl’s murder.

Platz maintains that Csucsai, who later committed suicide in his cell, was the one who killed Rebecca. However, under California law, this is irrelevant. A person convicted of a felony is considered responsible for any deaths that occur during that crime.

Platz’s new lawyer maintains that her previous court-assigned lawyer failed her by not giving her a chance to testify.
