40 Million Credit Card Numbers? Simple.

August 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Eleven people have been charged in what is considered to be the single largest and most complex identity theft case to ever be prosecuted in the United States.  The culprits have been charged with stealing over 40 million credit card numbers from 11 big US retailers.

According to authorities, the individuals were able to tap into the wireless networks of these stores and then use software to identify credit card information.  Using this same software, they downloaded the numbers along with password and pin number information.

The perpetrators sold some of the numbers; other numbers were attached to blank cards and used to withdraw cash from automated teller machines.

The numbers were stolen from stores such as Barnes & Noble, Boston Market, Office Max and Forever 21.  Some of the individual involved in the crime could face life in prison.  Criminal should be held accountable for their actions, but every person charge is constitutionally innocent until proven guilty.  If you like a lawyer to consider your case, call the San Jose criminal law specialists at the Daniel Jensen law firm.  Dial 408.296.41000.
