Rape and sexual abuse are very serious crimes that take place every day. The statistics describing how this takes place are actually quite astonishing. Almost two-thirds of rapes were committed by a person known to the victim. This means that, contrary to popular belief, rapes not committed by strangers. They are committed by friends, family members, and other acquaintances. 38% of rapes are committed by a friend, 28% by and intimate partner, and 7% by a family. 50% of all rapes occur either in the home or within one mile of the home. These usually take place between 6:30 pm and midnight.
As far as the offender is concerned, the average age is 31. 52% of them are white, and a large percentage of them are married. Usually, the assailant is intoxicated during the event. And probably the scariest, half the rapists who have been released from prison are arrested again on the same charge.
